June 24, 2018 | The Coliseum | St. Petersburg, Florida Jim Schott has been a Distinguished Professor of Practice in Educational Leadership for National Louis University for 17 years. He received his BA degree from Marian University majoring in Latin with minors in Philosophy, and English. He earned his Masters from Butler University in school management, and his Ph.D. from Purdue University in Educational Leadership. He served as Superintendent of the Orange County Public Schools for over twelve years. During that time, he served a year as President of the State Superintendents Association and two years as President of the Large City District’s School group of the 50 largest school districts in the United States and Canada. He later became President of United Arts of Central Florida. Jim also was a Regional President for an afterschool and summer curriculum company, Voyager Expanded Learning. In addition, he formed his own consulting company, Creative Education Solutions, and served on the Board of Directors of School Link Technologies, a school food services software and management company. Jim also served as President of the PRISM Project promoting business and school district STEM partnerships in 10 Central Florida school districts. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of Central Florida and its strategic planning committee and later chaired its group developing the Educational Leadership and Entrepreneurship Academy for Oak Ridge High School in Orange County, Florida that is now a JA national program. Throughout his career Jim has been an avid volunteer serving on various community Boards of Directors, including United Way and the City of Orlando’s Nominating Board for its different committees. He was a member of the Orange County and State PTA’ Boards of Directors. He also served on the Regional Aerospace Workforce Initiative for Florida’s space program. He was an “official baby rocker and feeder” for premature babies at the Arnold Palmer’s Children’s hospital. He and his wife Ginny currently serve as National Trustees on the Board of Directors for the Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB). He served as Chair of the FFB’s first annual VisionWalk in Orlando, FL that is now a national event. FFB financially supports research efforts to restore sight to persons with retinal degenerative diseases and its research has resulted in over 100 people having significant sight restored through its clinical trials. Jim has received numerous recognitions over the years, the most recent being his induction into the Orange County Public Schools Hall of Fame. Jim also was honored by National Louis University as a Distinguished Professor of Practice in Educational Leadership. In addition, He received the Donald A. Fleming Distinguished Alumni Award for Professional Achievement from Marian University in Indianapolis, Indiana, and the Harry Cragg Volunteer Award for Excellence in Service by Junior Achievement of Central Florida. Jim and his wife, Ginny, have two daughters, Susan Martucci and Cathy Keller, and five grandchildren, Christy, Christopher, Emily, Matthew, and Nick.
