Playtonics Yooka-Laylee ist eine Hommage an damalige 3D Jump 'n Runs Ende der 90er / Anfang der 2000er Jahre.

Der Bösewicht Capital B plant, alle Bücher der Welt aufzusaugen. Unsere Helden, die beiden Freunde Yokaa (ein Chamäleon) und Laylee (eine Fledermaus) müssen rechtzeitig die Hivory Towers erreichen und ihm das Handwerk legen.
Sie begeben sich auf eine Reise durch viele ziemlich offene Welten. Dabei erweitern sie ihre Spezialattacken (mit Hilfe des handelsfreudigen Trowsers, einer Schlange) und müssen kleine Rätsel, Geschicklichkeitspassagen, Retro Arcade Games, das ein oder andere Quiz und natürlich auch Bosse überwinden.
Neue Welten werden mit den sogenannten Pagies freigeschaltet.
Aber es gibt so viel mehr zu sammeln, z.B. die Ghost Writer.

Das Spiel besticht nicht nur durch Liebe zum Detail damaliger Hits, sondern auch durch abgefahrenen Humor und eine Riesenportion "Cuteness".
Für den Soundtrack verantwortlich zeichnen keine geringeren als David Wise (Donkey Kong Country) und Grant Kirkhope (Banjo-Kazooie)!
